What does a serious buyer check on a luxury watch?
Seven things, checked in a fixed order, because any one of them can end the conversation. First the reference and the serial, read off the case and matched against what the maison actually produced. Second, whether the movement runs, keeps reasonable time and winds properly. Third, the dial and the hands, because a replaced dial or a set of service hands is the most common quiet substitution in this market. Fourth, the case and bracelet: sharpness of the lugs, evidence of over-polishing, stretch in the links. Fifth, service history. Sixth, the box and the papers. Seventh, provenance, meaning where the watch has been and whether that story holds together.

What do you keep when the watch sells?
Most of it, and your share rises with the price. On our consignment ladder you keep 75% on pieces that sell under EGP 50,000, 80% from EGP 50,000 to 150,000, and 85% above EGP 150,000, calculated on the final sale price. A Cartier that sells at EGP 180,000 therefore pays you EGP 153,000. There is no valuation fee and no listing fee, so nothing is payable before a sale happens, and your share is confirmed in writing at the same moment the floor price is agreed. How should you prepare a watch before sending photographs?
Do less than you think. Do not polish it, do not have it serviced in anticipation of a sale, and do not replace a worn strap with something newer. Polishing removes metal permanently, and a buyer who wanted a sharp case will not thank you for a soft one. A service performed by an unnamed workshop can cost more than it adds, because whatever parts were fitted become part of the record of the watch. What genuinely helps is finding the paperwork: the original box, the papers, any service invoice. Photograph the watch in daylight against a plain surface, and photograph the flaws as carefully as the rest.
Honest condition is not a weakness in a listing. It is what makes the rest of the listing believable.
