How consignment at Sold Attire works

Most people who write to us are not trying to sell. They are trying to stop storing.

There is a bag in a wardrobe in Zamalek that has not been carried since 2019. There is a watch in a drawer in New Cairo that arrived as a gift, and a gift is a difficult thing to sell yourself. Both owners know roughly what the piece is worth. What they do not know is what happens if they hand it over: who sees it, who sets the price, and when the money arrives.

This is that answer, written plainly. It is the same process we run every week, and none of it changes depending on who is asking.

Who can consign with Sold Attire, and what do we accept?

Sold Attire takes pieces from the top houses only. Bags and ready to wear from Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bottega Veneta, Prada, Saint Laurent, Celine, Loewe, Gucci, Balenciaga, Fendi, Givenchy, Burberry, Valentino and Miu Miu. Watches from Cartier upwards, which includes Rolex, Chopard and the Omega Speedmaster. Fine jewellery from Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef and Tiffany. Sneakers only from Hermes and Loro Piana. The piece needs to grade at six out of ten or better, a watch movement needs to be running, and jewellery needs to be hallmarked or documented.

We do not take Michael Kors, Guess, Coach, Kate Spade, Tory Burch or high street labels. We do not take watches below Cartier, and we do not take fashion jewellery. That is not a judgement on the piece, or on the person who owns it. It is a judgement on our buyer list, which asks for a narrow set of houses and pays properly for them. Saying no quickly is more useful to you than leaving something to sit for a year.

How does consignment work, step by step?

Send ten photographs on WhatsApp to +20 122 111 2494. The piece stays at home with you while we look at it. You get a valuation within 24 hours, and it is one of three answers: we accept it, we decline it with a reason, or we ask for a few more photographs. If we accept, the floor price and your share are agreed in writing before anything goes live. We collect anywhere in Cairo and Giza, or you drop the piece at the New Cairo showroom by appointment. Outside Cairo, the courier is covered both ways.

From acceptance to live is usually under 48 hours. The piece is authenticated in house, photographed in the studio, and written up so a buyer can read exactly what they are getting. It then goes onto soldattire.com and out to the buyer list in Egypt and the Gulf. Sold Attire handles every buyer conversation, every viewing and the delivery. You are not messaging strangers or meeting anyone in a car park. When the piece sells at or above the floor, you are paid directly. The longer version sits on the consign page.

How much do you keep when the piece sells?

Sellers keep 75% under EGP 50,000, 80% from EGP 50,000 to 150,000, and 85% above EGP 150,000. The commission sits between 15% and 25% of the sale price, and it is the only money Sold Attire takes. There is no listing fee, no valuation fee and nothing to pay up front. Three worked examples make the ladder concrete. A piece that sells for EGP 40,000 pays you EGP 30,000. A piece that sells for EGP 90,000 pays you EGP 72,000. A Chanel Classic Flap that sells for EGP 180,000 pays you EGP 153,000. You are paid once the sale completes, and if the piece does not sell it comes back to you with no fee and no time limit.

How is the floor price set, and what moves it?

The floor is the lowest number you will accept, and nothing goes live until you have agreed it. Five things move it. Recent comparable sales, not the ones people wish had happened. Condition, graded honestly rather than kindly. The maison and the model, because some pieces move in a fortnight and some sit for a season. Live demand in Cairo, which is its own market and does not always follow London or Tokyo. And what came with it: box, dust bag, cards, receipt, spare parts. Prices shown on soldattire.com are asking prices, not fixed ones, so the floor is the number that actually protects you inside a negotiation.

A realistic floor sells. An optimistic one sits in the vitrine and quietly ages. Most pieces move in weeks rather than days, and a floor above the market simply stretches that out. Can you take a piece instead of the money?

Sometimes. If what you are consigning is a strong fit against something already in the showroom, we may propose an exchange rather than a payout. It is always our suggestion, never a request we make of you, and there is no obligation attached to it. You can say no and take the money exactly as agreed, and nothing about the floor price, your share or the timeline changes. The option exists because a consignor occasionally wants a different bag more than they want the cash, and holding both sides of that trade is the only way to make it clean. If it is never offered, it simply means the match was not there.

What is The Vault, and when is it the better route?

The Vault is a private WhatsApp community run by Sold Attire. Members post their own pieces once a month, for free, and no commission is taken. It is the lighter route. You keep the entire sale, you handle the buyer yourself, and you carry the work that comes with that: the questions, the haggling, the meeting, the delivery, and the awkward conversation if someone doubts the piece. Consignment is the opposite trade. You give up a share and we absorb all of it, including authentication, studio photography and access to the buyer list. Neither one is better than the other. They suit different pieces and different amounts of patience.

As a rough rule, The Vault suits a seller with time, a clear head for negotiation and a piece they can vouch for themselves. Consignment suits a seller who wants the piece gone, properly priced, without their phone number circulating. You can join The Vault and consign in the same month.

Does my piece leave my house before it is accepted?

No. You send ten photographs on WhatsApp and the piece stays with you. We arrange collection only after we have accepted it and you have agreed the floor price in writing.

What does it cost to consign?

Nothing up front. There is no listing fee and no valuation fee. The commission is between 15% and 25% of the sale price, taken only when the piece sells, which is why sellers keep 75% to 85%.

How long does a piece usually take to sell?

Weeks rather than days. A well-priced piece from a house our buyers ask for moves fastest. A floor above the market is the most common reason a piece sits.

What happens if my piece does not sell?

It comes back to you. There is no fee and no time limit on how long we keep trying, and you can ask for it back whenever you want.

Do you accept watches under Cartier, or fashion jewellery?

No. The watch floor is Cartier and above, which includes Rolex, Chopard and the Omega Speedmaster. Fine jewellery means Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef and Tiffany. Fashion jewellery is declined.

When exactly am I paid?

After the sale completes. You are paid directly, at or above the floor price you agreed, with nothing further deducted.
