Fifteen years at one house, stitched into purple suede and walked once down a Paris runway.
This Balenciaga Motocross Classic Neo Folk in embroidered purple suede with aged brass-tone moto hardware, from the Fall/Winter 2013 runway and final Nicolas Ghesquière season, has been authenticated by Sold Attire's 10-step verification process and listed with full disclosure of inclusions. Embroidered Motocross pieces from this capsule rarely surface outside private resale. Nicolas Ghesquière arrived at Balenciaga in 1997 and spent fifteen years rebuilding the house around archive research and modernist silhouettes; his exit in November 2012 made the FW13 show a closing argument rather than a collection. Pre-owned Balenciaga bags from the final Ghesquière archive sit in the collector tier. For those who buy once and buy right, this Motocross is that piece.

The Vision
The woman at the Townhouse Gallery opening in Downtown Cairo, black silk trousers, a vintage leather biker jacket, this Motocross slung at her hip. The embroidered folk pattern catches the spotlights above the mezzanine. She knows which season the bag is from. The dealer in the corner knows which season the bag is from. Nobody else in the room knows, and that is the entire point.
The Provenance
Balenciaga was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga in San Sebastian, 1919, and moved to Paris in 1937. Nicolas Ghesquière took the creative direction in 1997, a tenure now treated as one of the great house rebuilds in modern fashion. His exit in November 2012 and the resulting Fall/Winter 2013 show are why pre-loved Balenciaga collectors treat that final runway as a closing argument rather than a collection. The embroidered Motocross pieces were produced in small runway capsules and rarely surface outside private resale. Sourced through Sold Attire's Japan auction channel.
The Dialogue
Why is Ghesquière's final Balenciaga season considered archival?
Because it closed a fifteen-year creative run without warning. Ghesquière left the house in November 2012, and the Fall/Winter 2013 collection became the last one entirely under his direction before the Alexander Wang transition. Pieces from that show, particularly the embroidered suede capsule, have moved from seasonal inventory to collector category on the secondary market.
How does the Motocross Classic differ from the earlier City bag?
The Motocross Classic carries more structured hardware, heavier studs, and a more defined flat profile than the slouchy City silhouette. Interior construction includes a more reinforced base, and the strap hardware is cast rather than stamped. Ghesquière introduced the Motocross to give his harder-edged seasons a silhouette that matched the clothes.
Can embroidered suede be restored if damage occurs?
Suede can be cleaned and gently re-napped by a specialist using a brass-wire brush and a neutral suede eraser. Embroidery damage is harder to repair because the folk patterns were hand-executed in small atelier batches and the exact threads may no longer match. Sold Attire recommends keeping the bag away from water and direct sunlight, which is the primary cause of suede fade.
The Care
Purple suede is the most colour-sensitive leather finish. Brush lightly with a soft horsehair suede brush after wear to lift the nap. Keep away from water and direct sunlight, which cause dye fade. Avoid contact with denim, which transfers indigo permanently. Store in the Sold Attire dust bag, lightly stuffed with acid-free tissue, away from heat. The aged brass hardware develops patina naturally and should not be polished.
Authentication & Guarantee
Every Motocross passes through Sold Attire's 10-step authentication: suede nap density, embroidery thread tension, brass hardware casting weight, stud alignment, zip-pull stamping, interior lining pattern, mirror clasp construction, strap rivet finish, label and date stamp legibility, and provenance documentation. We back every authenticated piece with our Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee. If any item is ever proven inauthentic, we issue a full refund without time limit and cover return shipping.
